Reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport (via Mundo Deportivo) suggest that Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo could be open to a move to Juventus.

This has raised concerns about a potential situation involving the Uruguayan centre-back, who recently returned to action after six months on the sidelines.

While Araujo’s current contract with Barcelona runs until the summer of 2026, his future at the club is uncertain due to the emergence of Pau Cubarsi and Inigo Martínez, both of whom could impact his role in the squad.

While it has been stated that he is open to discussing a new contract with Barcelona, Juventus’ interest may have dwindled his mind.

Open to Serie A move

Italian media claim that Araujo has given his approval to a transfer to Juventus, a move that could see him join the side led by Thiago Motta. The Italian coach is eager to strengthen his defence and views Araujo as a key addition.

Juventus are looking to replace injured defenders Bremer and Cabal, as well as Danilo, who is set to leave the club on a free transfer and Araujo’s signing would be a significant boost to the team’s backline.

It is said that the Turin-based club is exploring a deal structure that involves a paid loan with a mandatory purchase clause.

In fact, their sporting director, Cristiano Giuntoli, is pushing to finalise the move quickly, ideally before the end of next week. Talks between the two parties have intensified as the Italian club looks to secure the defender’s services.

Juventus are quite serious about Araujo

One factor working in Araujo’s favour is his Spanish passport, which ensures he would not take up a non-EU player slot in Juventus’ squad.

This is a crucial detail for the Serie A side, as they currently have no available spots for non-EU players.

While Juventus are also interested in Slovakian defender David Hancko, they appear determined to prioritise Araujo’s transfer without letting it interfere with other plans.

If the move goes through, it could mark a significant change for both Araujo and Barcelona, forcing the latter to alter their transfer priorities considering the uncertain futures of Andreas Christensen and Eric Garcia.
