Semiahmoo women tee it up for Special Olympics of Bellingham at Ladies Invitational

Approximately 150 women gathered at Semiahmoo Golf & Country Club in Blaine on July 23 for the return of the Semiahmoo Ladies Invitational, which supports the Special Olympics.

A nod to the Paris Olympics created a compelling theme for women from across the Pacific Northwest, both American and Canadian, to test their skill on one of the most stunning courses in Washington.

Along with the support of top level sponsors Heather Taylor, Credo Construction, KamWay Transportation and Wells Fargo advisors Evan Crump and Will Tuttle, participants bid on auction items and raffle prizes donated by scores of local businesses.

The women were treated to an unforgettable day and a presentation by Special Athlete Cooper Howard. It was a proud moment for all when a check for $11,000 was presented to the Special Olympics Bellingham.

Chad VanderPoel, Northwest program manager for Special Olympics Washington, thanked the Semiahmoo women for the opportunity to showcase programs that truly enhance people’s lives.

“This not only impacts competitors but builds awareness for those practicing and competing in a very public way,” VanderPoel said. “The Semiahmoo event was a wonderful opportunity to talk about Special Olympics and our athletes. This generous donation will help athletes to learn, train and compete in a world that would otherwise be difficult for them.”

Tournament chair and Semiahmoo Ladies Captain Connie Serediuk thanked her amazing committee for making this one of the best events of the summer. “When women commit to a goal of having a good time for a good cause, it’s amazing what we can accomplish. We are extremely proud of our contribution to Special Olympics as well as hosting like-minded female golfers for an outstanding day.”
