See which Missouri high school football teams advanced to state championship games

It was a snowy Saturday afternoon around the state of Missouri, but that didn’t stop this year’s high school football state semifinalists from going at it on the gridiron.

Here’s a rundown of those scores, as well the schedule for the Dec. 6-7 MSHSAA 2024 Show-Me Bowl state-title games.

The Show-Me Bowl games will take place at Mizzou’s Faurot Field at Memorial Stadium in Columbia and Missouri Western’s Spratt Stadium in St. Joseph:

Platte County 44, MICDS 30

Snow on the ground, icewater in the Pirates’ veins. That was the story of this Class 5 semifinal Saturday in Platte City.

Unbeaten Platte County (13-0) built leads of 21-3 and 31-10 over the Rams and advanced to the program’s first state-title game appearance since back-to-back trips in 2019 (Class 4 tourney) and 2020 (Class 5).

Pirates QB Rocco Marriott got the party started with a keeper to the end zone and two TD passes — one of 9 yards to Braiden Stevens, the other covering 20 yards to Lane Webb.

It was 21-10 Platte County at halftime and 28-10 early in the third quarter. Brock Fowler’s interception of an MICDS pass set up a TD by senior running back Dayton Doll.

Junior Platte County placekicker Jackson Goodale tacked on a 26-yard field goal after another interception, this time by Trevor Hay.

The Pirates’ final touchdowns came via another keeper by Marriott and 30-yard run by junior running back Adam Gisler.

Platte County will face Helias Catholic for the Missouri Class 5 championship at 7 p.m. next Saturday, Dec. 7, at Mizzou’s Faurot Field at Memorial Stadium in Columbia.

Lutheran North 24, Kearney 21

Hoping to repeat as Class 4 state champions, the host Bulldogs instead fell to Lutheran North in the semifinals.

Kearney (12-1) clung to a 14-12 lead at intermission. But the Crusaders held firm on the Bulldogs’ opening drive of the second half, then eventually scored via an 18-yard TD pass.

A Bulldogs interception led to a Lutheran North run and 24-14 lead with 7:26 left in the game. Kearney was picked off on its next possession but got the ball back with 4:38 left.

Sophomore QB Carter Temple escaped and jetted 73 yards down the snow-packed field. He scored and Kearney was within three points, at 24-21, with 3:45 left.

The Bulldogs would get no closer. Kearney had another chance after a Lutheran North three-and-out but couldn’t advance past the Crusaders’ 40-yard-line.

The Bulldogs had led 14-12 at halftime. Senior Carter Temple’s 12-yard TD pass to junior tight end Drew Nelson and a 45-yard TD run by Grant Noland accounted for those points.

De Smet 34, Liberty 14

Liberty concluded its season with a memorable run in the playoffs ... and a tough loss on Saturday in St. Louis.

Host De Smet scored first on a 26-yard TD pass late in the opening quarter. But Liberty was hanging tough at that point: Senior Jays running back Jaxon Hicks soon busted loose for a 50-yard TD.

For two more quarters, though, it was all Spartans. QB Dillon Duff ran for one TD and passed for another and Jayden McCaster sprinted 69 yards for a TD that made it 27-7.

Hicks scored again, this time from 2 yards out, with 10:44 left in the game. But Duff tossed his third TD pass to ice it.
