See all the Kansas State Wildcats heading to Paris for the 2024 Summer Olympics

Kansas State will be represented at the Olympics this summer in Paris.

One active K-State athlete and a handful of former Wildcats will compete in a wide array of sports for their home countries over the next few weeks.

Here is a rundown of all the athletes with K-State ties that will be on hand for these Olympics, which will begin in earnest with the opening ceremony on Friday.

Laura Galvan: The former Kansas State track-and-field athlete will represent Mexico as a distance runner in the women’s 5,000 meter race at Stade de France.

Derrick Mein: This is believed to be the only athlete with K-State ties who will be representing America at the Summer Olympics in Paris. An alumnus of the K-State department of animal sciences and industry, Mein is set to compete in men’s trap shooting events. He also competed in the 2020 games in Tokyo. A native of Paola, he is an accomplished shooter who has won medals at several world competitions.

Eugene Omalla: This track-and-field athlete helped set a K-State school record for the outdoor 4x400 relay this year as a senior. He also medaled twice at the outdoor Big 12 championship. Now he is taking his running talents to Paris, where he will run the men’s 4x400 relay for The Netherlands.

Leticia Romero: A former K-State women’s basketball player, most remember her for her high-profile transfer away from the Wildcats in 2014. She led K-State in scoring, rebounding and assists as a freshman and then finished out her college career at Florida State. But not until after she won a contentious battle with K-State for a transfer release. In any case, she is now a member of the Spanish women’s national team.

Murphy Sheaff: Kansas State’s starting goalkeeper was chosen as a traveling reserve for the New Zealand women’s national team. Her team will begin competition Thursday in Group A pool play against Canada. Sheaff has previously been called up to the active roster with New Zealand for friendlies against Japan and America. Sheaff ranks fourth in K-State history with 82 career saves and will look to add those numbers next season in Manhattan.

It is also worth mentioning that new Kansas State track-and-field coach Travis Geopfert will be in Paris to help eight of his former athletes who will be competing at various events throughout the Summer Olympics.
