SEE: Former Red Wings' Big History-Making Night

It's not every day you make history.

Especially if you are a goalie.

Several excellent goalies have come through the Detroit Red Wings dressing room. Chris Osgood, Jimmy Howard, and Dominik Hasek are a few fantastic goaltenders who have crossed paths with the winged wheel.

But not every goalie has smooth sailing everywhere he goes. Sometimes, they struggle for a while and then have to find their game again once they've moved on.

Former Red Wings goalie Alex Nedeljkovic is doing exactly that.

Nedeljkovic became the first goalie to score a goal and an assist in a hockey game. Ever.

But it doesn't end there.

He is the first goalie to score a goal in the ECHL, AHL, and NHL. The 2024-25 season is the first year that multiple goalies have scored. On October 15th, 2024, Filip Gustavsson scored the first goalie goal of the year.

Nedeljkovic finished the game, stopping 40 of 42 shots. It was a great rebound game for the goaltender, as his last start resulted in the Ottawa Senators sneaking five goals past him on a meager 17 shots.

A Historic Night For Alex Nedeljkovic

He added another quality start to his stat line last night with the Pittsburgh Penguins 5-2 win over the Buffalo Sabres. As a result, the Sabres became the first team to be awarded a goal in a period without a shot on the net and then to have a goalie score on them in the next game.

What a strange league.

This memory will last forever, regardless of how the rest of the season turns out for Nedeljkovic.

And it likely won't happen again.
