(Broncos-Deportation-Hearing) (Audio: 030)

The truck driver who caused the Humboldt Broncos bus crash six years ago will face a deportation hearing in Calgary today.

Jaskirat Singh Sidhu (JASS'-kihr-at SING sih-DOO') was sentenced to eight years in prison after pleading guilty to causing the crash in Saskatchewan that killed 16 people and injured 13 others.

His lawyer, Michael Greene says there's no doubt the deportation order will be granted.

Greene says he'll ask that Sidhu's permanent resident status be granted on humanitarian grounds. (2)

Experts say Canada Post needs to take drastic measures to stop the fiscal bleeding and revamp its operations after a tough decade.

Some of the possible steps include raising stamp prices, implementing a more efficient delivery network, and expanding into new fields.

Around 100 hostages are still being held captive by Hamas and other militant groups, along with the bodies of around 30 more people. (2)

A group of American politicians is hoping to remind Canada of its commitment to spending a certain amount of its G-D-P on defence.

So far, the government's defence spending has been below the promised two per cent, something the bipartisan U-S senators say needs to change sooner rather than later.

However, under Canada's new defence policy, it is estimated that defence spending will rise to 1.76 per cent of G-D-P by 2029-30.

David Cohen, the U-S ambassador in Ottawa, praised the updated commitment upon release, describing it as "a substantial down payment toward'' the NATO target. (2)

(Overdose-Crisis)

The federal addictions minister says she had "deep concerns" about the lack of limits Toronto put on its now-rejected pitch to decriminalize the possession of illegal drugs.

Ya'ara (yah-AH'-ra) Saks adds that the city's health agency also refused to make any changes.

Earlier this month, Saks told reporters that Toronto Public Health's long-standing application was "dormant," then announced its denial days later, on a Friday evening before a long weekend.

The minister now says the proposal did not include age restrictions or limits on the amount of drugs a person could have in their possession. (2)

Lopez has said that at its core, it's a love story.
