Sky Germany reports that if Borussia Dortmund looks for a long-term coaching solution in the summer, Sebastian Hoeneß is one of their top candidates.

This scenario would arise if Dortmund decides to hire an interim solution to replace current head coach Nuri Şahin in the event that he is sacked. They would then begin to look for a permanent long-term option in the summer.

VfB Stuttgart’s Hoeneß is said to be a top candidate as he has a release clause at the MHP Arena that is active in the summer and worth around €7-8m. However, Hoeneß is one of the most sought-after coaches in German football right now and RB Leipzig and Bayer Leverkusen are also interested if either of their head coaches Marco Rose and Xabi Alonso leaves in the summer.

On top of this, Hoeneß’ contract at Stuttgart does not expire until 2027 and he remains committed to the club. VfB are currently only one point outside of the Champions League places and have overtaken Dortmund despite an inconsistent first half of the season.

Dortmund are known fans of Stuttgart’s work having signed Serhou Guirassy and Waldemar Anton from the club in the summer, whilst also having an interest in Enzo Millot for this summer.
