Scottie Scheffler says it was making homemade ravioli that led to injury requiring surgery
Scottie Scheffler got knocked out of at least two – and it could be three – PGA Tour events by, of all things, homemade ravioli.
Speaking on Monday via Zoom during Arnold Palmer Invitational media day, the world No. 1 confirmed that he was making ravioli on Christmas Day with his family when he broke a glass and required surgery on his right hand. In an Instagram post over the weekend by his chiropractor, Scheffler can be seen working out and wearing a brace on his right hand.
I *think* this is the first sighting of Scottie Scheffler since he cut his hand on Christmas Day and had to get surgery. Looks like he’s wearing some sort of cover/brace

Scheffler, who already has missed The Sentry and The American Express, hopes to return to action next week at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, but even that remains up in the air.
“Feeling good, everything went well with the surgery, body feels pretty good, still making decisions on schedule going forward but we should know in the next few days, to a week, whether I'll be playing next week but overall recovery is going well, everything is on schedule so we'll see, but feeling good,” he told reporters invited to the tournament’s media day where he is the two-time defending champion.
Scheffler’s extended layoff followed the best season in more than two decades since Tiger Woods was kicking butt and taking names. Scheffler won seven official times on Tour, including the Players Championship, Masters and Tour Championship, as well as a gold medal and the Hero World Challenge to wrap up the year.
“I usually take a decent break in the fall, away from practicing and stuff but I usually spend a good amount of that time in the gym, and a good amount of time, you know, I still play social golf in that time but I'm not practicing, if that makes sense,” he explained. “I took a couple weeks off after the surgery to make sure everything is healing properly and made sure we're in a good spot with my hand, so it was definitely a little bit longer and it was pretty unusual for me not to be able to do much in the gym.... I was still able to get in there and do some movement stuff with one hand, not going to go work out just the left side of my body. It was a good break. Got some good time to relax here at home.”
Scheffler is never one to boast about his past glories and admits he has a short memory and often needs a refresher to recall details of a round just a year ago. During his downtime, hand elevated post-surgery, he watched some of his highlights and reflected on his many successes.
“I did take a little bit of time to go back and watch some stuff from the last year, mostly just to help jog my memory,” he said.
Scheffler said the injury got him out of some diaper duty with his son Bennett as he struggled to do the most basic activities with just one good hand.
“Sometimes you don't realize how uncoordinated you are until you try brushing your teeth left-handed, stuff like that,” he said.
Scheffler declined to discuss the details of his recovery but he did share that he had returned to the gym and the exercise bike when his surgeon gave him permission and he sounded as if he’s on the verge of being ready to make his 2025 Tour debut.
“I want to make sure I’m getting back to normal and progressing the right way in recovery. I’m definitely anxious to get back, excited to get back but I’m also not going to rush back just to rush back,” he said. “Just doing some stuff here at home and continue the recovery and see where we’re at over the next few days and then make a decision.”
