Scotland call up New York Red Bulls winger Lewis Morgan

New York Red Bulls winger Lewis Morgan has been called up to the Scotland squad ahead of Euro 2024.

The former St Mirren and Celtic player, 27, has been drafted in to replenish Steve Clarke’s attacking options after Ben Doak and Lyndon Dykes had their hopes of going to the tournament dashed by injury over the past week.

Morgan won his only two Scotland senior caps against Peru and Mexico in the summer of 2018 under Alex McLeish.

A line on Scotland’s X account on Thursday morning read: “Steve Clarke has bolstered his squad with the call-up of Lewis Morgan. Welcome back to the squad, @10LewisMorgan.”

Morgan is the second attacker to be called up this week after 21-year-old Bristol City striker Tommy Conway was promoted from the Under-21 squad on Tuesday.

The squad is now back up to 28 but it will be trimmed to 26 by close of play on Friday, after the home friendly against Finland, when Clarke will have to confirm his final selection to go to Germany.
