Schira: Milan forward ‘one step away’ from loan-with-option move to Empoli

Lorenzo Colombo is one step away from leaving AC Milan for another season on loan, though there will be a buy-out clause included this time. According to the journalist Nico Schira, the official announcement should arrive soon. 

Colombo left Milan on deadline day last summer as the club waited for the potential arrival of a striker before letting him go. They wanted it to be Mehdi Taremi but in the end, they signed Luka Jovic on a free transfer – which was a good move in hindsight.

In any case, the 22-year-old scored four goals for Monza and Adriano Galliani thus didn’t open talks with Milan over a permanent deal. Colombo has been training at Milanello this week but according to Nico Schira, he will soon leave again as the move to Empoli is ‘one step away’.

The striker will join on loan with an option to buy and it remains to be seen if there will be a buy-back clause of some sort. In any case, this is a big opportunity for Colombo as he needs to perform consistently, having only shown glimpses of his quality in periods.

In the meantime, Milan are working on the arrival of Alvaro Morata and his final decision should arrive as early as Monday.
