Today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Corriere della Sera, via FCInterNews, offer an account of an unfortunate incident from 2021 involving ultras reselling drinks for a profit.

This week, Inter and Milan’s ultras groups have come under the spotlight.

Anti-mafia prosecutors have arrested nineteen leading members of the Curva Nord and the Curva Sud.

The prosecutors allege that the ultras have engaged in criminal activities surrounding Inter and Milan matchdays.

Moreover, there are allegations that the two clubs have facilitated these activities.

Not due to any deliberate actions. But the ultras groups have used pressure tactics to ensure, if not cooperation, at least passivity on the part of the clubs.

And the Corriere della Sera has highlighted one incident in particular on the part of Inter and Milan ultras.

How Ultras Pressured Inter & AC Milan Into Allowing Drinks-Selling Scheme

According to the Corriere della Sera, in 2021 members of the Curva Nord and the Curva Sud had been carrying out a scheme to resell drinks at the San Siro at a profit.

As part of this, the ultras would stand in front of drinks vendors at the stadium.

They would block matchgoers from entering to buy drinks.

And according to the Corriere della Sera, vendors received instructions not to resist these tactics, for the sake of safety.

And according to the Corriere della Sera, things came to a head when ultras leaders secured meetings with vendors at the San Siro.

These meetings resulted in an agreement. The ultras would receive coupons to purchase 500 drinks at a price of 1500, or 3 per drink.

Then, the ultras would resell these drinks to matchgoing fans at a price of 5 each, pocketing the profit.

This episode serves to illustrate the influence that the Nord and Sud ultras have had at San Siro matchdays.

The pressure that the ultras groups have exerted has been sufficient that the clubs have not been able to effectively resist.
