SC tennis player makes it to the round of 16 at the Olympics. See how she did

Emma Navarro’s Olympic run has ended.

The 23-year-old Charleston resident lost Tuesday in three sets (6-7, 7-6, 6-1) to Qinwen Zheng of China.

Navarro defeated Julia Grabher of Australia on Sunday and Viktoriya Tomova of Bulgaria on Monday to make it to the round of 16.

Navarro, who attended Ashley Hall in Charleston and the University of Virginia, was seeded No. 11 for the Olympic women’s tournament, and is ranked No. 15 on the World Tennis Association Tour.

She won her first WTA singles title in Hobart, Australia, earlier this year. She also made it to the quarterfinals at Wimbledon, where she defeated former world No. 1 Naomi Osaka and Team USA teammate Coco Gauff, who also lost Tuesday at the Olympics.

Navarro won the NCAA Singles Championship in 2021.

This was her first Olympics.
