San Marino end stunning 20-year winless run with Nations League victory
It has finally happened people — San Marino have won a game of football!
La Serenissima had not won in 20 years coming into their UEFA Nations League showdown with Liechtenstein, but a Nicko Sensoli goal in the second half has seen Roberto Cevoli’s side over the line for a famous victory.
The last time San Marino won a game was, funny enough, against this very Liechtenstein side all the way back in 2004. Their winless streak has spanned two decades, 140 matches, and eight Prime Ministers in the United Kingdom.
The hysteria online was, well, as expected.
OH MY GOD IT’S HAPPENING IT’S HAPPENING OH MY GOD IT’S HAPPENING OH MY GOD

Liechtenstein themselves have been on a torrid run of form. Their last victory? Four years ago against San Marino. The two sides had a combined winless streak of 179 games coming into the affair Thursday evening.
History has been made! Now how long will we have to wait for the next victory?
