San Diego Wave reportedly trade star forward Jaedyn Shaw to North Carolina Courage
The Wave reportedly received a large sum of allocation money in exchange for the young USWNT star
In one of the biggest trades of the NWSL offseason so far, the San Diego Wave have sent star forward Jaedyn Shaw to the North Carolina Courage, per multiple reports. In return, the Wave have received an undisclosed amount of allocation money.
According to The Equalizer's Jeff Kassouf, Shaw had requested a trade earlier in 2024, leading San Diego to try to find a potential landing spot. Under the new NWSL collective bargaining agreement, which goes into effect on Wednesday, player consent is required for all trades.
Shaw played in 22 games this season, getting 13 starts and posting four goals and one assist. She also earned her first call-ups with the U.S. women's national team, playing in four matches and posting a goal and an assist on the way to helping the United States win the SheBelieves Cup.
The 20-year-old forward will join a North Carolina team that has played well but could use the kind of goalscoring and star power she can provide. The Courage finished fifth last season, advancing to the playoffs, but quickly lost to the Kansas City Current in their first postseason game.
San Diego, meanwhile, will be starting somewhat from scratch next season. Earlier this week, the team hired former Arsenal women's coach Jonas Eidevall to take over as head coach. The Wave will also be moving forward without Alex Morgan, an inaugural member of the franchise, after her retirement in September.
