Sampdoria 2-2 Milan Women: Big opportunity wasted with play-off at risk
AC Milan Women failed to clinch three important points against rock-bottom Sampdoria this afternoon, wasting a good opportunity to put pressure on Como. Our correspondent Luca Maninetti breaks down the game.
Heading into the clash, Suzanne Bakker and her players knew that a win was needed to put pressure on Como. Furthermore, with Sampdoria sitting in last place, it was a game that needed to be won regardless of the incentives.
Unfortunately, due to a poor first half and an even worse start to the second, Milan Women suddenly found themselves 2-0 behind. Only at that point did the Rossonere start playing, realising the gravity of the situation.
Nikola Karczewska brought life back into the game in the 85th minute, and Julie Piga then found the equaliser in the 90th minute. Bakker’s side were unable to find a winner and despite the late comeback, it was an opportunity wasted.
Como, who are above in the standings, lost their game against Inter 1-0 and Milan thus had an opportunity to be within one point of the club. Now, however, play-off of the championship round (Como has the last place) is at risk for the Rossonere with three games left.
Primo tempo regalato! Ripresa male! La Samp va in vantaggio di due gol e da lì il #MilanFemminile inizia a giocare! Due pali, due gol ma è un punto che non serve a nulla. Corsa play off compromessa (2-2). pic.twitter.com/tIut50K31i
