Frank Seravalli has reported a new name that is going to be joining the Oilers' captain skates. He reported that defenseman Travis Dermott would be arriving in Edmonton this week. He added that a PTO offer would follow.

Dermott played with the Arizona Coyotes for the 2023-24 season. He recorded seven points in 50 games while playing 17:17 a night.

One player who won't be joining the Oilers this week, has been a fan favorite for his entire career. Sam Gagner is expected to sign a PTO with the Carolina Hurricanes.

Gagner only played in 28 games last season. He was a depth piece for the team, but spent many games injured. However, when he was put in the lineup he played every shift with tenacity and gave it everything he had.

He recorded 10 points in his 28 games. He skated a career-low 10:13 a night last season. To produce that much while playing that little is a testament to his positive on-ice impact. Gagner only recorded two less points than Mattias Janmark, Connor Brown and Derek Ryan. All three of those players dressed for at least 70 games.

His professionalism and positive attitude will be missed. To be honest, there wasn't room on this roster for him. Between the new additions and the young prospects looking to crack the roster, he got squeezed out. Now he has a chance to join a new organization and continue his career elsewhere.
