Saints safety Marcus Maye denies allegations after being arrested for aggravated assault with a firearm
New Orleans Saints safety Marcus Maye was arrested just outside of New Orleans, on Thursday morning for alleged aggravated assault with a firearm and is being held on $30,000 bail, according to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office website.
Police issued a warrant for Maye's arrest following an investigation into a road rage incident that occurred on Monday, according to a statement from Sheriff Joseph Lopinto. Maye was identified and accused of pointing a firearm at another vehicle "occupied by several juvenile females," per the statement.
Maye denied the allegations in a statement from his attorney, Eric Hessler, to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.
Statement from Marcus Maye’s attorney, Eric Hessler:
“Marcus vehemently denies the allegation from a motor vehicle incident, and looks forward to defending himself when all the facts come out.”— Tom Pelissero (@TomPelissero) September 1, 2022
Neither the Saints nor the NFL have publicly commented on the matter yet.
This isn't Maye's first vehicle-related arrest in his NFL career. He was arrested and faced charges of alleged DUI, DUI/damage to property and person, and leaving the scene of a crash stemming from a 2021 car accident in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, when he was a member of the New York Jets. Maye was subject to the league's personal conduct policy but that case is still going through the court system. Maye was scheduled to have a hearing on August 24 before it was postponed.
Maye signed with the Saints this offseason on a three-year, $28.5 million deal to be New Orleans' starting safety alongside Tyrann Mathieu. He was a second-round pick by the Jets in 2017 and tallied 93 combined tackles, six interceptions, four forced fumbles and 3.5 sacks before he tore his Achilles in Week 9 of the 2021 season.
