The Derby della Capitale belongs to Roma as they defeated Lazio 2-0 at the Stadio Olimpico in Matchday 19 of Serie A.

Early first-half goals from Lorenzo Pellegrini and Alexis Saelemaekers sealed the win for the Giallorossi—handing Marco Baroni’s side their sixth league defeat of the season.

Appearing on DAZN at full-time, Saelemaekers, who was named Man of the Match, shared the emotions of scoring in the Derby.

“What an incredible feeling,” exclaimed the Belgian.

“I’ve played in the Milano derby before, but the Rome derby is something unique. I’m very happy to have scored and helped the team. We’ve got to stay on this path and keep going.”

The wide-man also commented on captain Lorenzo Pellegrini, who made a surprise start following a turbulent week filled with transfer exit rumors, before heaping praise onto manager Claudio Ranieri.

“Prior to the game, I told Lorenzo on the bus that he’s score—and that’s exactly what happened,” told Saelemaekers.

“I’m really happy for him because it’s been a tough period for him. He’s such an important player for the team, and today he proved it. We’re all united with him.”

Adding, “As for Ranieri, he’s a legend in Rome. We’re happy for him because he took over the group in a difficult moment and lifted us up. Today, we won for him and for the fans.”
