Sabres World Junior Prospects – Weekend Update

The Buffalo Sabres have six prospects playing for five countries at the 2025 IIHF World Junior Championships in Ottawa in action on the first day of the tournament, and the weekend saw some of them get on the scoreboard.

In days 3 and 4 of the tournament on Saturday and Sunday, Team USA went 1-0-1, beating Latvia 5-1 and losing to Finland 4-3 in overtime. Brodie Ziemer had an assist in Saturday’s victory and scored the game-tying goal in the third period of the loss to the Fins, while Adam Kleber played a team-low 8:29 against the Latvians.

Sabres 2024 top Konsta Helenius registered his second tournament assist against the US.

2023 second-round pick Anton Wahlberg was the scoring star for Sweden in their 8-1 win over Kazakhstan, with two goals and two assists. In a 7-5 win over Switzerland, the 19-year-old was held without a point in just over 19 minutes of ice time.

Slovakia dropped their second game of the preliminary round to neighbor Czechia 4-2, and Sabres defensive prospect Maxim Strbak was once again a workhorse, with an assist, five shots on goal, in just under 21 minutes.

Germany and defensive prospect Norwin Panocha were shut out by Canada 3-0 on Sunday. The 19-year-old was -2 and had two shots on goal in 20:44.
