Sabres Should Strike Big Trade For Rangers Star

The Buffalo Sabres are a team to watch incredibly closely as we continue to get closer to the trade deadline. After a disastrous 13-game winless streak, they are now at the bottom of the Atlantic Division. This is just brutal for a team that was expected to make a real run at breaking their 13-year playoff drought.

With the Sabres struggling, there is no question that they should be looking to make changes to their roster. It is apparent that they could use another scorer in their top six, and one player who should immediately grab their attention is New York Rangers forward Chris Kreider.

Kreider, 33, has been made available by the Rangers. Due to the Rangers' immense struggles this campaign, they have already traded former captain Jacob Trouba and winger Kaapo Kakko. Now, Kreider is another big name who could be dealt, and he is precisely the kind of player the Sabres should consider targeting.

If the Sabres acquired Kreider, he would be an immediate fit in their top six and on their power play because of his scoring ability. However, the 6-foot-3 winger would also give them more bite, as he plays a heavy game.

Kreider has had a down season so far this year, posting 12 goals and an assist in 32 games. However, when noting that he scored at least 36 goals in each of his previous three seasons, there is clear reason to believe that he can bounce back with a change of scenery.

Kreider would be more than a rental, too, as he has a $6.5 million cap hit until the end of the 2026-27 season. He also has a 15-team no-trade list, so he would need to approve a move to Buffalo for any trade to potentially occur.
