What Ryan Poles told DJ Moore after Bears fired Matt Eberflus

The Chicago Bears did something they've never done in their history before: they fired a head coach midseason. To be fair, Matt Eberflus really left them no choice after a brutal six-game losing streak where half of those losses were a result of poor coaching.

With Eberflus' firing happening Friday -- ahead of a three-day weekend before the players regroup on Monday at Halas Hall -- we haven't sene many reactions from players, outside of safety Jaquan Brisker and his cryptic tweets. But receiver and team leader DJ Moore made it clear it's a move that was long overdue.

During an appearance on 670 the Score's "Mully & Haugh," Moore said general manager Ryan Poles called him to explain the Eberflus firing. And his message was simple.

“He just basically told me what had already got out in the media before he called me, but he was just like, ‘We’re going to get this thing turned around – a leader of men is going to be in here for the next coach,’” Moore said.

Poles and president Kevin Warren will lead an extension coaching search this offseason, where it won't matter whether a candidate has an offensive or defensive background, rather are they a "leader of men" that's been floated around ad nauseam already.

For what it's worth, Eberflus was supposed to be that "leader of men." Hopefully this time around with Poles and Warren leading the search, they'll finally be able to get it right.
