Ryan Gosling and Hillary Clinton Are Both Very Disappointed in the Barbie Oscars Snubs

Pretty much everyone is disappointed by the Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig Oscar nominations snubs, apparently. And by everyone I mean, like, Hillary Clinton has weighed in. Ryan Gosling himself has released a statement about it. A-listers from across the celebrity spectrum have all come together to be mad at the Academy on behalf of Barbie.
After the Oscar nominations were announced on January 23, Gosling, ever the consummate Ken, released a statement expressing some disappointment that his costar and director didn't get the same recognition that he did. “There is no Ken without Barbie, and there is no Barbie movie without Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie, the two people most responsible for this history-making, globally celebrated film,” Gosling said, per People. “No recognition would be possible for anyone on the film without their talent, grit, and genius.”
Simu Liu, who played one of the other Kens in the film, kept the Kenergy going and tweeted, “Being involved in a small way gave me a window into just how hard Greta and Margot had to fight to get Barbie made, and how flawlessly they executed. Together they started a movement, touched the world and reinvigorated the cinema.” America Ferrera, who, like Gosling, was nominated for Barbie, told Variety, “I was incredibly disappointed that they weren’t nominated.” She continued, “Greta has done just about everything that a director could do to deserve it,” and, “What Margot achieved as an actress is truly unbelievable.”
But the snubs clearly also rankled people who were not involved in the film at all. Former secretary of state Clinton, for instance, had this to say on Twitter: “Greta & Margot, While it can sting to win the box office but not take home the gold, your millions of fans love you. You’re both so much more than Kenough.” Stephen King, famous horror novelist, wrote, “No nom for Greta Gerwig? Can that actually be true?” From tennis icon Billie Jean King: “Really upset about #Barbie being snubbed, especially in the Best Director category. The movie is absolutely brilliant, and Greta Gerwig is a genius.”
At this rate, I assume President Biden is going to hold a press conference about the Barbie snubs in the next few days. Just kidding. Kind of.
