Ruud van Nistelrooy signs two-year deal at Manchester United as Erik ten Hag’s assistant
According to Eindhovens Dagblad, Ruud van Nistelrooy has officially signed a two-year deal at Manchester United, becoming a new assistant coach at the club. The former PSV Eindhoven manager will work alongside Erik ten Hag in coaching the first team as Monday marks the teams return to training. Van Nistelrooy is waiting on a work permit before the club officially announce the news.
Van Nistelrooy had several options to choose from before returning to his former club. Burnley and Club Brugge made moves to appoint the 48-year-old as head coach and several sides in Spain and Germany reportedly made contact with the Dutchman. After spending more than a year away from the game Ruud van Nistelrooy has opted for a return to Old Trafford.
The former Red Devils striker experienced an incredible spell at the club between 2001 and 2006, scoring 150 goals in 219 appearances under Sir Alex Ferguson. Now he’ll be hoping to lift trophies as a coach at the club. Manchester United are also preparing for the arrivals of Go Ahead Eagles manager René Hake and Ajax goalkeeping coach Jelle ten Rouwelaar.
