Manchester United legend Ruud van Nistelrooy is looking to put his connections at Carrington to good use and lure a young player to Leicester City.

It has been an eventful first half of the campaign for the Dutchman, to say the least. The iconic striker returned to the club in the summer as assistant manager for his countryman Erik ten Hag.

The 48-year-old then found himself in charge when the former Ajax boss was sacked. The club appointed him as interim manager until the arrival of Ruben Amorim in November.

And while the former Real Madrid star admitted he was hoping to stay at United as part of the Portuguese’s staff, the new boss politely rejected the proposal, prioritizing his tried and trusted collaborators.

Nevertheless, Van Nistelrooy didn’t remain on the shelf for too long, as Leicester came calling shortly after his Old Trafford exit. The Foxes appointed the Dutchman as a replacement to Steve Cooper who was sacked following a slow start to the season.

Despite a dream debut that saw the East Midlands side prevail over West Ham, the Man United legend believes his squad still requires significant reinforcement in order to avoid the drop at the end of the season, and he has already identified a familiar face who can offer him a hand at King Power.

According to The Sun, Van Nistelrooy is hoping to lure Toby Collyer to Leicester in the middle of the campaign.

The 20-year-old has only made a single appearance in the Premier League this season, coming in after the interval in the 0-3 defeat to Liverpool as a replacement for Casemiro who was enduring a horror show.

The source reveals the new Leicester manager as a big admirer of the young midfielder who impressed him with his incredible running stats in training.

Collyer started his career at Brighton before being poached by Man United in 2022. This season, he earned a promotion to the first team, but has been left starving for playing time.
