Rutgers holds Eastern Michigan to 4 first-half points in ludicrous display of basketball
Poor, poor Eastern Michigan. Just four days after Zion Williamson dunked them into oblivion, the Eagles ran into a brick wall on Monday and made some very unfortunate history in the process.
However, let’s just say Eastern Michigan’s opponent wasn’t quite Duke-level this time.
Eastern Michigan scores four points in first half vs. Rutgers
Facing a Rutgers team that has finished at the bottom of the Big Ten standings every year since it joined the conference in 2014, Eastern Michigan entered halftime with four points. Four.
During that first half, the Eagles shot 2-of-25 from the field, missed all seven of their free throws and committed 13 turnovers. They would later explode for 32 points in the second half on the way to a 63-36 loss.
That first-half total of four points tied an NCAA Division I record for fewest points in a half during the shot clock era, a record that Rutgers was very proud of.
Rutgers ties an NCAA record for fewest points allowed versus a Division I team in a half in the shot clock era (since 1986) by allowing just four points to Eastern Michigan in the opening half #GardenStatement ⚔️🛡 pic.twitter.com/VgjtKRdyvf

It was an unimaginably bad game of basketball, and one that came against a Rutgers team that hasn’t exactly provided much evidence that they aren’t your father’s, or even your older brother’s, Rutgers team.
It’s early, but it appears that Illinois only exists as something of a remote relay so that the rest of the Big Ten has a way to communicate with Rutgers. pic.twitter.com/L1t8yLXNHY

Not the first time Eastern Michigan’s seen a four-point half
Incredibly enough, this isn’t the first time Eastern Michigan has been involved in a four-point first half.
That record that Eastern Michigan tied on Monday was last reached on Jan. 26, 2013 in a similarly futile Northern Illinois effort … against Eastern Michigan. Just like Rutgers, the Eagles had some fun that day.
We just held NIU to 4 points in the 1st half. #EMUHoops #MACsketball

NIU missed 30 consecutive shots in the 1st half. #EMUHoops

We haven't confirm it just yet, but we believe #EMUHoops just tied the NCAA record for fewest points allowed in a half.

Rutgers basketball better look out, because, going off best available evidence, they’re next.
