McGroarty, who hails from Lincoln, Neb., was acquired from the Winnipeg Jets in exchange for Brayden Yager.

Drafted by the Jets in the first round of the 2022 NHL Draft, McGroarty spent this past season playing for the Wolverines where he scored 16 goals and added 36 assists for 52 points in 36 games.

Over his two seasons with the team, McGroarty scored 34 goals and added 57 assists for 91 points in 75 games. Throughout his time in the NCAA, he was named to the B1G First All-Star and All-Tournament Teams, NCAA West Second All-American Team, finished as a Hobey Baker nominee and was crowned B1G Champion.

McGroarty has the ability to use his frame to his advantage and does not shy away from contact near the net. He can spot teammates through traffic in the offensive zone and navigates well in small areas. If he can adjust to the NHL level quickly, he will be an immediate difference maker for the Penguins.
