Rudi Garcia & Thierry Henry favourites for Belgium job
According to a report from L’Équipe, the Belgian Football Federation are set to part ways with national team head coach Domenico Tedesco. Two French coaches are the current favourites for the job: Thierry Henry and Rudi Garcia.
Henry was initially publicly backed by Tedesco and Romelu Lukaku to one day take the job as Belgium boss, and he is one of the favourites to take the job. Yet, his profile and big media and advertising contracts financially complicates at deal. Henry coached the France U21 national team to silver at the Paris 2024 Olympics and was assistant to Roberto Martinez when he was head coach of the Red Devils.
Rudi Garcia’s profile and CV is equally reportedly attractive for the Belgium national team job. Since being sacked by Napoli in November 2023, Garcia has not yet moved on to another club due to his contractual situation with the Serie A side. After his exploits with as Lille coach, uncovering International star Eden Hazard, Garcia is a popular coach in Belgium. He is the preferred choice of recently appointed Belgian FA sporting director Vincent Mannaert, who has been charged with finding a replacement for Tedesco.
The Red Devils should have a new manager in place by March, when they take on Ukraine in the UEFA Nations League. The plan is reportedly to seal a move for an incoming manager by the end of January, and officialise them in February.
