Ruben Amorim reaches new milestone with Man United victory over Rangers – report

Ruben Amorim has not made a great start to his reign as Manchester United manager.

They defeated Rangers 2-1 at Old Trafford on Thursday evening to record their third consecutive victory in the tournament under the Portuguese tactician.

He is the third Red Devils’ manager to win his first three games in a major European competition since Sir Alex Ferguson and Sir Matt Busby did the same for the club, according to OptaJoe.

Ferguson’s first three victories were in the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup in the 1990/1991 season. United went on to win the tournament.

Busby was the first United manager to record the feat in the 1956/1957 campaign, winning his first three matches in the European Champion Clubs’ Cup.

Amorim must help United win the Europa League

United are unlikely to qualify for Europe next season through the league unless there is a tremendous change in form.

Winning the Europa League or the FA Cup is their best route to European football.

Teams will not drop from the Champions League into the Europa League this season, giving United a good chance of winning.

United are one of the three sides that have yet to lose a game. While there is tougher opposition to play, the Red Devils should not fear anyone.

Jose Mourinho was the last Man United manager to win the competition. Amorim can emulate his former superior by guiding United to the trophy

United will qualify for next season’s Champions League if they achieve the feat.
