Ruben Amorim insists he won’t look to sign any Sporting CP players in the January transfer window, but his promise won’t last forever.

Mais Futebol have run comments from the Portuguese coach ahead of his final match as Sporting manager as he revealed his transfer plans for the future.

Amorim starts work at Carrington on Monday morning, but first he must take charge of Sporting for their trip to Braga. In his final Primeira Liga encounter, Amorim will be facing his former club which makes the occasion extra special.

The new head coach will inherit a squad that was built for his predecessor, but several of the players involved have underperformed for a long time. It will be Amorim’s responsibility to get them back to their best.

People are already debating how the team will look under Amorim.

Many see him implementing a three-at-the-back system, which worked when his Sporting CP side hammered Man City in the Champions League earlier this week.

There has been suggestions that Amorim could look to bring some of his best players with him from Sporting, including lethal goalscorer Viktor Gyokeres.

However, Amorim has made a promise to Sporting CP that he won’t be approaching any of their players in January.

But he didn’t say that promise would last forever.

“In January I’m not going to get anyone from Sporting,” Amorim said.

“That’s what I said, in the summer and I don’t know what I’m going to do. The main point is to hold on until the summer. Second point, you can see that Sporting players are great players. Let’s see what will happen.”

United have been linked with other Sporting players, too. The likes of Morten Hjulmand and Geovany Quenda.

The club previously targeted players Ten Hag worked with, but that did not work out as intended for many of those players. Antony was the worst buy of the lot.
