Royals pitcher Michael Wacha has settled in KC. Here are a few of his fave spots

Royals pitcher Michael Wacha made the start on Monday in Baltimore against the Orioles at Camden Yards.

Michael Wacha has found a home in Kansas City.

The veteran starting pitcher signed a new three-year deal with Royals on Sunday and will be tied to the organization for the long haul.

Wacha, 33, fell in love with the organization and local community. He is purchasing a house in the area and he and his family have enjoyed their time in the city.

“Definitely looking forward to getting out and trying everything,” Wacha said. “I can tell you where the best parks are and the best slides and swings for a two-year-old, I guess. With another year older with her, I think we will start getting out and around town and checking everything out.”

Wacha crossed one item off his Kansas City to-do list Monday: He attended a Chiefs game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.

Wacha said he still has several KC barbecue establishments to discover. For now, he said he enjoys Jack Stack Barbecue.

“There are plenty of restaurants and stuff that we didn’t get a chance to check out this past summer,” he said.

Wacha’s return strengthens the Royals’ starting rotation. He held a significant role as a trusted veteran leader in the clubhouse this season, his first with the Royals. He finished 13-8 with a 3.35 ERA in 29 starts.

The Royals value Wacha’s competitive nature and professionalism. He fit into the team culture and created a new dynamic in the dugout, watching his teammate’s bullpen sessions and instituting in-game huddles with the team’s other starting pitchers.

Wacha garnered the trust of the KC coaching staff, as well. He was one of three Royals pitchers who started games this fall as Kansas City returned to the playoffs for the first time since 2015.

Now, he will get a chance to enjoy long-term security with the Royals.

“I’m just truly grateful to be a part of this organization for the next three years, and continue that winning tradition that goes right along with Kansas City,” Wacha said.
