Royals, Chiefs games will overlap Monday. KC fans share their viewing plans

Monday is going to be an incredible day for Kansas City sports fans.

The two-time defending Super Bowl champion Chiefs will put their undefeated record on the line when they play the Saints in a “Monday Night Football” game at Arrowhead Stadium.

And the Royals will be playing Game 2 of their American League Division Series against the Yankees in New York.

The only downside: First pitch for the Royals game is at 6:38 p.m. in Yankee Stadium on TBS. Kickoff at Arrowhead Stadium for the Chiefs game is at 7:15 p.m. on KMBC (Ch. 9) and ESPN.

That’s a bit of a Sophie’s choice for some Kansas Citians. I asked fans on X what their viewing plans were for Monday night, and here is what they said about trying to follow both games.

Matt Newbold had this plan: “Setting up another TV in the living for this!”

“Both. One on iPad, one on tv,” a fan named Sandra wrote.

Abe Schwartz’s plan: “I’m watching the Royals and DVRing the Chiefs.”

Chiefs on TV,” Andrew Boyce shared. “Royals on my phone. Easy.”

Pat Stack’s plan: “Both! Set up a second t.v. on the deck. It’s going to be awesome!!

Will Corker wrote: “There’s certainly going to be some back and forth but at this point the Royals take priority.”

“Gave up my Chiefs tickets so I can go watch both,” Manny J shared.

Ricky Sanford thinks it’s a no-brainer: “Easy! Chiefs on the television and Royals on the radio since MLB can’t put the games on for the average fan!”

“I’m not even a baseball fan but this is the reason I have a 2 TV setup,” Allan Housell shared. “Don’t know how I ever watched games on just 1 TV.”

Nick Price’s plan: “Gotta be both. But the Royals get the big TV with sound.”

It’s the opposite for a fan named JB: “Both. Chiefs with sound on the TV, Royals no sound on the tablet.”

Start with Royals. Move to Chiefs,” Brent Saindon wrote. “These baseball games are moving fast with the pitch clock.”

Bryce Lathrop’s plan: “Chiefs on the tv, Royals on the radio!”

My two televisions will be in the same room,” Murphy Jones wrote.

“Nebraskan here…that’s what having 4 TVs in one room is for!” Chris Mastny noted.

Barbara M wrote: “Both, WiFi and move two TVs next to each other.”

“Chiefs on the big screen, Royals on the other,” wrote JC from KC. “Love the boys in blue, but we’re mid dynasty with every alarm going off here with the Chiefs boys.”

A fan named Rebekah shared this: “I was gonna do Royals on the big TV and Chiefs on the small one… but I’m probably going to be AT the Royals game, so I guess I’ll just check in on the Chiefs a couple times.”

It’ll be the other way around for Morgan Loewenherz. She wrote: “I’ll be at the chiefs game watching both.”

A fan with the handle Arrowhead Carl wrote: “Royals on main but Chiefs will still get plenty of attention”

“Well, I’m coming back from college to go to MNF,” Eli Bosley wrote. “Of course, this was way before the Royals were playoff eligible. So, definitely both!!!”

Ditto for Jesse Leimkuehler: Going to be at Chiefs game. Hoping they live stream before the game on scoreboard so we can watch some of it.”

“If I only had one tv, it’s the Royals 100%,” wrote a fan named Nick. “They’re in the playoffs, while the chiefs are playing in week 5 against an avg football team. Easy choice”

Connie Jo shared this: “I support the Royals and am happy they’re in postseason, but, the Chiefs will always have my heart first. I’ll be watching the Chiefs. Besides, I don’t stream, and won’t pay to watch games. I only watch games aired on KC local TV networks, using an antenna.”

Tracy Wapp wrote: “I’ve had Chiefs tickets for months, so we’ll make the 6 hr. drive and watch. But you better believe I will have the Royals game on my phone and an earbud in!”

A user named Kobe Johnny Cash wrote: “Both, but volume up on Royals. Then chiefs after Royals win.”

Here are some of the other responses.
