Royals’ Bobby Witt Jr. literally left his mark on Green Monster at Fenway Park

Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. spent many summers in the New England area where his father’s family lived.

Witt would make regular trips to Fenway Park as a kid, joining Red Sox fans in singing “Sweet Caroline” and watching players try to clear the most famous left-field wall in the world.

Witt didn’t do any crooning when the Royals played at Fenway Park last weekend and this time he was the one trying to hit one over the Green Monster. Witt did it Friday night when he crushed a 1-2 sweeper from Boston’s Cooper Criswell.

“Luckily just got it up and got it over the monster finally, and that’s something that I kind of always dreamed about and it happened so it’s pretty cool to do that,” Witt said.

The ball had an exit velocity of 107 mph and traveled 429 feet where it landed among a group of Royals employees.

Maritza Chavez, who works on Royals Corporate Partnerships, came away with the ball but only after it hit the bleachers atop the Green Monster. The next day, the spot where the ball hit was clearly visible as Witt literally left his mark on the Green Monster.

It’s wild to see the red stitches from the baseball.

Not only did the ball hit by Bobby Witt Jr. made an impression on the bleachers atop the Green Monster but you can see the red stitches.

Here is a look from where Chavez and others were sitting during the game. That ball traveled a great distance, didn’t it?
