Ross Pearson Makes Quick Return, Jumps Up to Welterweight at UFC 201

New UFC Belfast Co-Main Event Comes Together Quickly

Ross Pearson has agreed to take a short-notice fight and move up to welterweight to fight Jorge Masvidal at UFC 201.

Just days removed from a loss to Will Brooks at Friday's The Ultimate Fighter 23 Finale in Las Vegas, Pearson, normally a lightweight, requested to step in for Siyar Bahadurzada, who withdrew due to illness.

Pearson will meet Masvidal as part of the UFC 201: Lawler vs. Woodley undercard on July 30 in Atlanta.

While Pearson (19-11, 1 NC) is making the quick turn from the Brooks fight, Masvidal (29-11) is also looking to get back on the winning track. He is coming off back-to-back losses for the first time in his career. The two losses were via split decision to Benson Henderson followed by Lorenz Larkin.

The UFC 201 main event features UFC welterweight champion Robbie Lawler putting his belt on the line against Tyron Woodley.
