Ronaldinho’s son continues career in England following Barcelona exit
In March 2023, Joao Mendes – son of Ronaldinho – followed in his father’s footsteps by joining Barcelona. The 19-year-old, who primarily plays as an attacker, started out in the U18s, before making the jump to the U19s at the start of last season.
However, Mendes was unable to make an impact in Catalonia, and Barcelona opted not to renew his contract – which expired at the end of June. After weeks searching for a new club, he has settled on England.
Fabrizio Romano has reported that Burnley, who were relegated from the Premier League last season, have agreed a contract with Mendes.

There’s no doubt that being the son of Ronaldinho will weigh heavy on Mendes’ shoulders, and it probably did during his time at Barcelona – especially so given the impact that his father made at the Blaugrana. He will hope to have more success at Burnley, and it would not be a surprise to see those at Can Barca keeping tabs on his progress.
