Romelu Lukaku after scoring in debut for Napoli: “It is an honor to play for this club and these fans”
After having found the back of the net against Parma in his debut for the Partenopei to help complete the 2-1 comeback at home, Napoli forward Romelu Lukaku provided his insight on his emotions following the vital match.
Despite an extremely long summer transfer saga, coach Antonio Conte at last seized his primary candidate to replace Victor Osimhen up-top as Napoli seized the Belgian marksman on a permanent transfer within the last few days of the market.
The 31-year-old made his mark immediately upon his reunion with the Italian tactician since their incredible work together at Inter during their 2020/21 title winning campaign, as Lukaku came on-to the pitch in the 62nd minute of play for Giacomo Raspadori and found the back of the net with an exquisite turn-and-finish, after receiving a marvellous ball in between the lines from Leonardo Spinazzola.
After obtaining all three points and an impressive debut that silenced many critics that were skeptical about Napoli having signed the former Inter and Roma forward as the successor to Osimhen, Lukaku touched upon his pride to be with the Partenopei and to finally wear the Azzurri shirt whilst speaking to DAZN, via TMW:
“It is an honor to play for this club and these fans. And together with these boys, they welcomed me very well. We worked hard, the efforts in training paid off.
Did you expect to score straight away?
“I’m used to scoring duing my debut in my career. We won, that was the important thing.”
Are you happy to find Conte again?
“Very happy. Now we have to work, it’s a journey that starts today.”
