Romano exclusive shows Man City “hijacked” move and will sign Chelsea wonderkid this summer

The bad news has been confirmed – Chelsea are going to lose one of the brightest talents in the junior years of their academy.

The rumours had been swirling for a while about 16 year old wonderkid Ryan McAidoo, but we’ve finally now had it confirmed by the oracle himself, Fabrizio Romano.

“Ryan McAidoo leaves Chelsea and he’s set to join Manchester City, here we go,” the insider Tweeted.

“2008 born talented forward decides to join City, deal hijacked after proposals from other Premier League top clubs. Deal in place and huge talent for #MCFC Academy.

There had already been plenty of speculation about this move, with Romano previously claiming that Arsenal were favourite to sign him. Since then, City obviously made the stronger proposal, and now the sparky young attacking midfielder is set to head north. Romano said that the Premier League champions “hijacked” the proposals from other Premier League sides.

His progress in recent months has been notable, with recent appearances for the England U16 and U17 teams, and this will be a bitter blow to those in the academy who have been part of his development for such a long time.

Chelsea’s academy at risk

This whole affair raises questions about Chelsea’s academy as a whole. Yes it’s hardly new to lose talented players, especially at such a young age. But there can be no denying that the pathway to the first team has never been so blocked as it is now, and will never have appeared as daunting to a young player.

Not only is there a first team crammed with expensive signings in their early 20s, there’s also a whole slew of South American teenagers on loan, with more arriving every window. Players like McAidoo must feel like they’re getting further away from the first team rather than closer to it.
