As per a report from Sports ZoneAS Roma are pushing to sign Stade Rennais right-back Lorenz Assignon (24), following the Frenchman’s return from a loan spell at Burnley.

Assignon began last season as Rennes’ starting right-back, however, Julien Stéphan’s arrival as manager changed that. As a result, he departed in January, joining Burnley on a six-month loan with the option to make the deal permanent. Whilst Burnley wanted to trigger the €10m purchase option, Assignon himself didn’t want to remain with the Clarets as they dropped down to the EFL Championship.

As a result, the Frenchman returned to Les Rennais, however, he won’t remain there. It is accepted that the Frenchman has no future at the club and so the door is open for him to leave. Sports Zone understands that AS Roma are pursuing a deal and are hoping to sign the player in the coming days. The Serie A side are now being led by former OGC Nice sporting director Florent Ghisolfi, who, with a strong knowledge of the French market, has already completed the signing of Enzo Le Fée, also from Rennes.
