According to a report by L’Équipe, AS Roma are considering Rudi Garcia as their next manager as they look for a replacement for Ivan Jurić who was sacked on Sunday after only 12 games in charge of the capital club.

Garcia is not expected to be the frontrunner for the role. Roma’s American owners are reportedly interested in a foreign manager like Edin Terzic (who guided Borussia Dortmund to last year’s Champions League final) or Frank Lampard. However, others at the club prefer an Italian profile like Roberto Mancini or Massimiliano Allegri.

L’Équipe notes that Garcia is now free from his Napoli contract. The Frenchman was sacked after only 16 games in the 2023/24 season, but a quirk of the Italian game is that clubs often relieve their managers of their duties but keep them under contract. The contract was broken in October when other teams (such as Stade Rennais) became interested in Garcia’s services.

A return to Roma for Rudi Garcia?

Garcia previously managed Roma from 2013 until 2016 where he helped lead the club to two runners-up finishes.
