Roma celebrate Lorenzo Pellegrini’s 300th appearance: “A great moment in your career.”
Roma published a statement, celebrating Lorenzo Pellegrini’s 300th appearance for the club.
“A small moment for a match, a very important moment for a career” begins Roma’s statement, “That of Roma captain Lorenzo Pellegrini who, entering the field twenty minutes from the end of the Coppa Italia round of 16 against Sampdoria, recorded his 300th appearance with the Giallorossi shirt.”
“At that moment Pellegrini reached Marco Delvecchio in seventeenth place in the appearances ranking from 1927 to today. Ahead of him are two sons of Rome, captains and legends such as Fulvio Bernardini (303) and Agostino Di Bartolomei (310).”
“His debut was also as a substitute, on March 22, 2015 in Cesena, when he entered the field in the 22nd minute of the second half in place of Salih Uçan. Coach Rudi Garcia had been keeping an eye on him for a while, he had seen him score an incredible goal in the Youth League against Manchester City and during the week he had complimented him on how he had trained.”
“He had to wait until September 16, 2017, a home match against Verona, for his debut as a starter, because between 2015 and 2017 he had been on loan at Sassuolo, before returning to what had always been his home.”
“A lifelong Roma fan, it was his father who took him to the stadium since he was little. At nine years old, after his first steps in Italcalcio and Almas, he was already in the youth sector.”
“The club announced his return with a video in which he played PlayStation as himself. Then, on December 1, 2017, he scored his first goal in Giallorossi, at the Olimpico against Spal.”
“The turning point came on September 29, 2018, the day of Roma-Lazio. In the 37th minute, Pastore got injured and Pellegrini came on in his place, without even warming up. Eight minutes later, he scored the backheel goal that gave Roma the lead in a 3-1 win, where he won the free kick that led to Kolarov’s goal and provided the assist on a free kick for Fazio’s goal.”
“The other turning point came on December 6, 2019 at the Meazza in Milan, where Inter-Roma was played, and where he wore the captain’s armband for the first time. He has been designated captain since January 23, 2021, when he scored the winning goal in the last second against Spezia.”
