Rolling into 2025, Boise State men’s hoops team beats Wyoming for 5th straight win

Boise State’s Alvaro Cardenas, seen driving in a game against Air Force on Dec. 21, led the Broncos to a win over Wyoming on New Year’s Eve.

Maybe the Broncos won’t run the table the way the football team did, but Boise State men’s basketball continued its hot Mountain West start Tuesday night.

While the football team, which went undefeated in conference play, was seeing its season come to an end in a Fiesta Bowl loss to Penn State, the hoops squad was celebrating New Year’s Eve with a 67-58 win at Wyoming.

Boise State (11-3, 3-0 Mountain West) got 19 points and six assists from point guard Alvaro Cardenas, and shook off a second-half rally from the Cowboys (8-6, 1-2) to head into Saturday’s big home game against San Diego State with a five-game winning streak.

The Broncos watched an eight-point lead get trimmed to one, at 45-44, with 8:06 to play before Cardenas made a pair of free throws. Andrew Meadow made a 3-pointer and another jumper to help push the lead back to eight a few minutes later, and Boise State coasted home.

Tyson Degenhart finished with 16 points and nine rebounds for BSU, and Meadow had 11 points and six rebounds. The Broncos outrebounded Wyoming 41-28.

A.J. Wills led the Cowboys with 17 points.

Boise State returns home to host the Aztecs (8-3, 1-1) at 2 p.m. Saturday at ExtraMile Arena. The game will be televised on CBS.
