Roger Schmidt has no interest in coaching Borussia Dortmund
In the event that Borussia Dortmund part ways with Nuri Şahin, then Roger Schmidt has no interest in coaching the Bundesliga side because of reservations about the club’s management, according to Ruhr Nachrichten.
Potential successors to Şahin are already being discussed behind the scenes. Erik ten Hag was a visitor to the Signal Iduna Park but as reported by RN, the Dutchman’s appearance at the club has no links to the current coaching situation – the former Manchester United manager is an acquaintance of Matthias Sammer.
Borussia Dortmund and Şahin have started the year with successive Bundesliga defeats against Bayer Leverkusen and Holstein Kiel. Die Schwarzgelben found themselves 2-0 down inside the opening eight minutes against Leverkusen, and 3-1 down inside 20 minutes.
Against Kiel, Dortmund were 3-0 down by half-time and although a resurgence in the second-half with goals from Giovanni Reyna and Jamie Gittens, Fiete Arp scored a fourth for Kiel in stoppage time, leaving BVB in tenth, five points behind RB Leipzig and the final Champions League place.
Nuri Şahin understands speculation around his Borussia Dortmund future
Speaking about his future, Şahin did admit that he can understand why it’s being speculated: “It is completely clear that the coach is also being discussed. I cannot excuse myself from that. The last person I am thinking of now is myself.
“I am speechless; I am stunned at how we can put in such a performance. I don’t care at all about me; I care about Borussia Dortmund, about the people who mean well for this club, and that I, as the person in charge, have not yet managed to get this team to play as they would like.”
Borussia Dortmund face Eintracht Frankfurt at the Deutsche Bank Park on Friday night.
