Rod Brind'Amour Earns 300th Win As Head Coach, Fastest In NHL History To Milestone

With the Carolina Hurricanes 5-2 win over the New Jersey Devils Saturday night at Lenovo Center, Rod Brind'Amour officially became the fastest head coach to win 300 games in NHL history.

Brind'Amour, who is also the 57th head coach to reach the milestone, needed just 488 games to earn his 300th win, surpassing Bruce Boudreau who set the record at 496 games in 2014 with the Anaheim Ducks.

"I've had good teams, I guess," Brind'Amour said when asked about the record. "It's the guys. Coaching is interesting. You get way too much credit when your team wins and you just get abused when it doesn't and it's like, 'Wait a minute...' It's not quite how it really works out. It's the group that you have."

The Hurricanes' bench boss, who's in his seventh season as the head coach in Carolina, could have reached the milestone just a little bit faster, but he had to wait after back-to-back losses sandwiching the holiday break.

Brind'Amour has led his team to the Eastern Conference Final twice and three straight division titles since taking over in Carolina in 2018.

His aggressive style of play and complete team buy-in has made him a successful coach and he's extremely well respected by his peers around the league who many have gone on to copy the Hurricanes' style for their own teams.

The former captain and Stanley Cup champion has an overall record of 300-143-45 or a 0.661 point percentage, which is the second highest amongst coaches with at least 300 games coached.

"I've been blessed and we've talked about it a lot," Brind'Amour said. "I've got a real good group. Win or lose, you can pretty much count the times on your hand when it wasn't a solid effort. They give you what they can every night and that's something that I take the most pride in."
