South Pointe rolls past Ballantyne Ridge in Charlotte

Northwestern rolls

Catawba Ridge 21, Chester 14: C.J. Couch threw a pair of touchdown passes to Braylin Burgis, lifting the Copperheads. Catawba Ridge’s defense made a critical stop of Chester late in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.

Indian Land 39, Andrew Jackson 21: Sequel Patterson caught a clinching touchdown pass in the fourth quarter, helping Indian Land down its Lancaster County rival and improve to 3-0 on the season. Andrew Jackson (1-2) had closed the gap to 12-7 with a pick-six late in the second quarter, but Indian Land returned the ensuing kickoff 87 yards for a touchdown and an 18-7 halftime lead.

No. 3 Northwestern 48, South Florence 7: Northwestern jumped out to a 34-0 halftime lead and cruised in its warm-up game before next week’s city showdown with South Pointe. Northwestern QB Finley Polk was 18 of 28 for 290 yards and five touchdowns. He connected with Kameron Vance seven times for 140 yards and three touchdowns.

No. 7 Hough 41, Carolina Forest 0: Hough senior Jycen Anciso ran 14 times for 125 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Huskies on the road. Jamison Funderburk also had two touchdowns rushing. On defense, Edward Conover had eight tackles and one tackle for a loss for Hough and senior Cameron Cyr had three sacks.

York 49, Union County 14: Quarterback Tayshon Freeman threw two touchdown passes and ran for another score in York’s victory. Connor Sweat led a strong defensive effort, returning a fumble for a touchdown.
