On Valentine’s Day last year, a gunman opened fire inside Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida and killed 17 people. An event of extreme tragedy saw 14 students and three staff members prematurely lose their lives.

One year later, Florida Panthers goaltender Roberto Luongo has not forgotten about this senseless act of violence, but more importantly, the victims of the tragedy. Prior to the team’s game against the Calgary Flames on Thursday, the netminder — who has resided in Parkland for more than a decade — offered up an extremely classy gesture to honor those who were affected.

An extremely touching display by the veteran goalie to wear the mask during warmups.

The helmet will be displayed in the “Den of Honor,” which is located inside the Panthers’ home arena in Sunrise, Florida. It will join other important pieces of the area’s hockey history.

Both clubs in the contest honored the victims as they participated in a pre-game moment of silence.
