Robbie Gould wants to see Bears QB Caleb Williams grow as a leader
Caleb Williams had quite the ride and experience during his rookie season in the NFL. A season that saw him set multiple records in both the NFL and in Bears franchise history, Williams also saw plenty of turmoil, going through three different offensive coordinators and two head coaches.
The first offseason in Williams NFL career will also be a roller coaster ride as the team has over $80 million in projected cap space, four picks in the Top-75 in the 2025 NFL Draft, and an urgency to improve the roster, while also bringing in a new coaching staff. With plenty of expected change coming to Chicago, former legendary franchise kicker Robbie Gould would like to see Williams take the next step of leadership in his sophomore season next year.
Appearing on Marquee Sports Network, Gould discussed his eagerness to see Williams become more of a leader when the 2025 season rolls around.
"For me, what I'd like to see in the offseason is him to take a better leadership role, to create the culture in this locker room," Gould said. "I think one of the Bears thing is the culture. What does it mean to be a Bear, what is that voyage from when you come in as a rookie, to whenever you leave in free agency, or you retire. Remember, once you're a Bear, you're always a Bear. That culture should be started from the day you walk in whether you play one play, or the last play. I hope that he takes more of that leadership role to get the guys together to throw, to build a culture to hang out in the offseason, and I'm expecting him to take that leap in the offseason."
Throughout the turmoil of the 2024 season, a common narrative in the locker room was missing leadership and accountability. Not only for his career, but for the team, especially with a new coaching staff coming in next year, Caleb Williams growing into the undoubted leader of the Bears could go a long way for sustainable success.
