Robbie Gould: Bears' slow starts in first half not a recipe for success

Getting off to fast starts in NFL games is imperative to a team's success, but it has been an absolute failure for the Chicago Bears this season.

Second-to-last in points averaged in the first half of football games this year, the Bears continue to dig themselves into a hole they can't recover from, and because of such, they're currently on an eight-game losing streak.

Franchise legend and former kicker Robbie Gould is frustrated, just as are the current players, coaches, as well as fans of the organization with the lack of first-half production, with the continued losses. During his weekly appearance on "Bears Den" on the Marquee Sports Network, Gould discussed how the Bears' inability to score in the first half, while being outscored 53-0 in their last three first halves, is clearly not a recipe for success.

"The biggest thing is you're getting outscored 53-0 in the last three games, in the first half, that's not a recipe for being successful," Gould said. "If you want to play games that are in close proximity of the score, and being able to control the time of possession, and really start the run game, you can't put the onus on Caleb to drop back and pass. Especially if you know your offensive line needs help."

The Bears' problems this season have been clear and obvious to all who are watching, and there's no bigger offensive concern in terms of production, than the slow starts in the first half. With three games remaining on the season, it'll be interesting to see if the Bears can have any luck in playing better to open up the game.
