'Riza is always being battered - give him his chance'
Callum Robinson has backed Omer Riza to succeed in the long term at Cardiff City in the wake of the Bluebirds' thumping win over Swansea City.
Cardiff's most comprehensive league south Wales derby victory since 1965 extended their unbeaten run to six games.
It is the second upturn in form since Riza became Cardiff boss following the sacking of Erol Bulut last September.
Riza has also overseen a nine-game winless streak which led to questions about his position, but Robinson says the former Watford coach deserves time to prove himself in the dugout.
"I just feel like he is always being battered. People would say 'oh is he the right man, get someone [else]," said Cardiff's 10-goal leading scorer.
"But just give him his chance. He is a young manager. He has put in a lot of work.
"It's his first job at this level but you have to start somewhere. He has the job and let's see what happens."
Robinson scored twice in Saturday's 3-0 victory over Swansea, with Cardiff delivering a resounding victory just 48 hours after the death of Riza's father Josh.
Riza was sent off in stoppage time for stepping on to the pitch to remonstrate with Goncalo Franco after the Swansea midfielder collided with him on the touchline.
"Forget the red card," Robinson added. "The geezer [Franco] took him out, he knows what he's doing and he [Riza] has got every right to be angry.
"The fans applauding him just proves we are all with him."
Riza had travelled to London to see his father before he died on Thursday, but was back for training on Friday as Cardiff prepared to face Swansea.
Robinson said Cardiff's players knew nothing about Riza's family situation until his father's passing was announced.
"He is a credit to himself," Robinson said. "Obviously all the boys sent love to him and his family but he didn't mention it [on Friday].
"Then before the game literally three or four words, he just said he has had a tough time. I respect that.
"He didn't want to make it about himself. Some managers wouldn't have even been at the game. I am so happy we got a result for him and his family."
Riza is expected to be on the touchline as normal when Cardiff return to action at Millwall on Tuesday (19:45 GMT), with any sanction for his red card likely to come after the trip to The Den.
