Rival club consider entering the race for Chelsea target as transfer saga reaches critical stage
Manchester United are considering entering the race for Chelsea transfer target Mathys Tel according to Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg.
The January transfer window is now into the final few days and the Blues have so far been quieter than expected, although this is usually the stage when business starts to pick up.
Chelsea are yet to sign anyone, whilst their only outgoing to date has been Renato Veiga joining Juventus on loan until the end of the season.
Man United consider entering Tel race
The Blues have agreed a deal with Strasbourg worth €15m for Mamadou Sarr, with the 19-year-old set to join in the summer.
It’s no secret Chelsea are looking to sign an attacker before deadline day and they have been linked with Alejandro Garnacho, Liam Delap and Tel.
Chelsea were handed a huge boost in their pursuit of Tel after it was reported on Tuesday that he had taken the decision to leave Bayern Munich.
The 19-year-old is a versatile forward who can play both on the left and through the middle, and reports have stated Chelsea have intensified their efforts to try and sign the teenager.
There are multiple clubs interested in Tel, but with Bayern interested in Christopher Nkunku, Chelsea have the possibility to do an unofficial “swap deal” with the pair.
However, Plettenberg has reported the Blues might have to fight off rivals Manchester United who are considering entering the race for Tel.
He took to X.com and said:
“Understand Manchester United considering entering the race for Mathys #Tel in the event of a departure of Alejandro Garnacho or Marcus Rashford.
“Following Tel‘s decision to leave FC Bayern before Deadline Day. #MUFC Open race. But ManUtd and more teams are very well informed.”

If Chelsea want Tel they are going to have to move fast and try to convince him, as it’s been reported the teenager doesn’t see Stamford Bridge as the ideal place for his development.
This is certainly a move that is likely to run right until deadline day and it will be interesting to see what happens.
