Richard Sherman believes Pete Carroll has tools to succeed with Bears
The Chicago Bears completed an interview with former Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll on Thursday, and he's an intriguing name for the team's coaching vacancy.
After 14 seasons in Seattle, which included 10 playoff appearances, five NFC West divisional titles, two Super Bowl appearances, and one championship, Carroll did not coach in the 2024 season and has had time to wait for the right opportunity to open up.
Up until this week, Carroll had only been attached to the Chicago vacancy, but is now also scheduled to interview with the Las Vegas Raiders for their head coach job. One man who knows Carroll very well is former Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman, who now serves as an analyst for "NFL on Prime" and believes his former coach would be a great fit in Chicago.
Appearing on the "Up & Adams" show, Sherman was asked if he feels Carroll is the right guy for the Bears franchise, and it was an emphatic yes.
"Yes," Sherman answered quickly. "I think he's going to get a coaching job just because he's a culture builder. I think everybody has gotten into this cutesy mindset of offensive genius or defensive genius, and they forgot about building the culture of a team. He's built with young quarterbacks, he's built with quarterbacks people threw away, and he's had success building defenses. All the pieces are there for him to be really successful."
Carroll may not be atop the popularity list between the media and fans when it comes to the most preferred choice, but his resume speaks volumes in comparison to all other candidates. In his time away Carroll may have put plenty of effort and focus into getting back to winning football, something the Bears are desperate over the past 15 seasons.
