Rex Ryan: Why Bears' Week 11 loss was the best thing that could happen
It is not often that there could be a positive silver lining in a loss for the Chicago Bears, but one former NFL head coach believes that just happened. With their 20-19 loss to the Green Bay Packers in Week 11, the Bears lost their fourth consecutive game in a week filled with drama, highlighted by the firing of Shane Waldron and Thomas Brown being named the new offensive coordinator.
During the first three losses of their current four-game losing streak, the offense was beyond embarrassing in Chicago, which led to the dismissal of Waldron. Upon his promotion to offensive coordinator, Brown made quick changes to the offense that were clearly apparent, especially in the play of quarterback Caleb Williams. With the Bears losing another game due to coaching decisions, but Williams looking good, former NFL head coach and current ESPN analyst Rex Ryan said the best thing happened to the team with what transpired against Green Bay.
On ESPN's "Get Up," Ryan said that the best thing that could happen to the Bears is that there was growth and development in Williams, but the team lost another game, which gets close to the head coach being fired.
"To me moving forward, this is great," Ryan said Monday. "If you're a Chicago Bears fan, the best thing happened to you. Why? Your quarterback looked good, superstar, and you know what else? You lost the game. That's fantastic cause you're going to get a new coach in there and you're going to build it up again, and have a better draft spot. This ain't your year anyway, it's unfortunate, it should be, you should be in the playoffs with this kind of talent. Defense is talented, quarterback should be a stud, you got good receivers, but you got a guy [Eberflus], I don't understand. He should never do a press conference, he should just take the fine, cause every week it gets worse and worse."

Hate to agree with this but it might be for the best long term. #DaBears #Bears #ChicagoBears pic.twitter.com/AWd9QbeSTa— Clay Harbor (@clayharbs82) November 18, 2024
It's harsh towards Eberflus, but a fair criticism for where the Bears are in the rest of their 2024 season. There have been multiple times during his tenure where Eberflus has cost the team a potential win with head-scratching decisions, and now the end could near for his time in Chicago.
